The current design, with the station access only from Old Oak Common Lane, creates the feeling of an isolated island, in the middle of no where. The actual station building is also quite a distance from Old Oak Common Lane, which further adds to this disconnection. I feel that wherever possible HS2 should work to connect the station much better with the surrounding area and should prioritise other access routes to "anchor" the station into its surrounding environment with better connections with the existing communities, especially Harlesden town centre, which historically only developed because of the coming of the railways. I don't like that the ground level ("conventional rail") platforms are not fully enclosed by the station building, only having canopies. This does not feel "integrated" and feels like a design afterthought. I would also prefer the station to better connect with the existing, especially rail (Tube and Overground at Willesden Junction and North Acton), transport infrastructure. The current station design is okay, however, it is far from ambitious, especially considering this is the first major rail station built in London since Victorian times and may actually end up being the most used/busy in the country.

I was slightly disappointed by the design for the new station. It doesn't seem very inspiring and in fact the front of the station looks similar to Stratford Underground, which now looks quite shabby and hasn't held up well. If this is to be one of London's busiest stations, it does not come anywhere near the design of other major London mainline stations such as the modernisation of King's Cross, St. Pancras and Paddington or other large stations such as Berlin's Hauptbahnhof, Birmingham New Street or Liège station in Belgium. If this station is to be the first major new station to be built in London for centuries, and is a new era in rail travel (like Eurostar was) then it would seem only right to give High Speed Rail a station that befits it - for instance, how St Pancras was a big, bold, ambitious and different class of station to accompany European rail travel. I am also disappointed the roof of the main station building doesn't extend over the main Western Rail lines. It makes this half of the station appear to be the VERY poor cousin of the high speed part of the station, but moreover, I do not think it would give adequate cover to passengers on these platforms in bad weather. Remember, Crossrail should be stopping at these platforms, and the rest of the Crossrail line will be treated to impressive and inspirational stations. Getting off one of these trains at Old Oak Common will be like stepping onto the platform of any plain old English regional station as there won't be an impressive structure surrounding and covering these platforms. Finally, as a local resident I would appreciate good links to Harlesden town centre and the local Overground and Underground services at Willesden Junction. The station is currently in a "no man's land" and will be until development around the station is fully completed over the next 20-or-so years. Therefore, In the meantime, it feels like until then the most benefit of the station could be gained by residents in Harlesden - if the station helped with the much-needed regeneration of the area by bringing in new people. To do this it would need to have a good link to the town centre and the existing transport links at Willesden Junction station.

A faster way of getting to/from Willesden Junction should be provided, such as an automated people mover, rather than just a bus. Also will you be able to get on a HS2 Train to Euston from Old Oak and if so will you be able to use Oyster?

Please plant lots of oak trees. Evergreen varieties such as the Holme Oak should work well providing shade In the summer & colour in the winter without a disruptive leaf fall. We’d all love to see as many plants as possible. It would be great to see archive photos in the station showing what the area was like. My great grandfather worked as a doctor in Acton in Victorian times before becoming a TB specialist. I moved to Wells House Road in 1987 as I worked for BBCTV on dramas such as Doctor Who, which we would rehearse in North Acton.

How will the station uplift the area? Will it look attractive? Will it be kept clean and in good repair? Will people be safe walking there? What measures will be taken to ensure it does not attract thieves, drunks or layabouts? What provision is being made to ensure it doesn’t fill with litter and rubbish? Where will visitors park cars, bikes and motorbikes? What hotels will visitors use? How noisy will the area become? Will there be vibrations? As a property owner in Wells House Road, I am concerned about the prospect of high rise buildings being built on the green site near the station. We have not seen any designs.
