Old Oak and Ealing's first HS2 Community and Environment Fund award goes to community run food surplus store

Bubblesqueak CIC’s have received £74,700 in funding for their 'Creating Futures through Bubble & Squeak’ project which is committed to providing the local community with healthy, affordable food, while building skills and confidence.

Twice weekly, children and adult volunteers will run a surplus food stall where the local community can buy healthy fresh produce at a very low cost. Children and volunteers will learn enterprise, healthy lifestyle and money management skills, while after school and weekend activities will include a STEM Club, healthy meals and art sessions with local artists to create public art pieces. During the weekend the CIC will work with Foodcycle, a volunteer led organisation who cook a free 3 course meal for local residents. This is a chance for the community to come together to socialise and share a meal. To make this an intergenerational event the organisation will deliver sessions that run in tandem with the meals, such as intergenerational bingo, children and adults planting in the community garden or an arts and craft activity.

The community and business funds are administered and managed by independent community charity, Groundwork UK. For more information on Groundwork and the funds, including how to apply, click here .
