News on HS2 in Old Oak

HS2 takes seriously its role in being a good neighbour every single day. The health, safety and wellbeing of the communities along the route of the new railway, and our staff, remains our top priority.

We are continuing to work closely with our construction partners to review the works on our construction sites in line with Government and Public Health England (PHE) advice on dealing with COVID-19. The Government’s current COVID-19 strategy makes clear that construction activity should continue as long as it complies with this guidance.

The below works are going ahead as our contractors are confident that they can operate in line with PHE and industry guidance, protecting our staff and the communities in which they are working.

Old Oak Common Station site

On the 27th March our contractor, CSJV, paused works to ensure they were compliant with government and Public Health England (PHE) advice on dealing with COVID-19. Since then they have on developed plans and implemented protocols to resume works that they are confident can operate in line with PHE and industry guidance, protecting our staff and the communities in which they are working. This process is now complete and we are now restarting the below works from this week:

• Excavations and relocation of soil within the site

• Removal of concrete foot paths

• Construction of concrete roads

• Compaction of excavated ground

• Removal of material from site

• High Speed Train shed/Long Standing shed foundation removal and crushing

• Crushing of concrete foundations in the central area of site

Works at Willesden Euroterminal, Atlas Road and Victoria Road sites have been temporarily paused. However a security presence remains on all sites and the worksites remain under constant review for the resumption of works within PHE and construction industry guidelines.
