HS2 construction sites in Old Oak

Willesden Euroterminal (WET) site

The old Willesden Euroterminal site will be the HS2 logistics hub where materials and plant for the construction of the tunnels and station will be stored.

Material and spoil from the conveyor belt system will also be stored here for it to be removed by rail. This site will operate 24/7 once the conveyor system starts.

Atlas Road site

Similar to the WET site, Atlas Road will also be a logistics hub storing items such as tunnel segments. It will keep material and spoil from the logistics tunnel which will be used to transport spoil from the tunnel boring machines heading east towards Euston. More about the logistics tunnel in due course.

Victoria Road Crossover Box site

This is the site where a crossover box will be built along with an ancillary shaft. A crossover box allows trains to swap tracks as they enter and leave a station; more information about this can be found here . The ancillary shaft and its headhouse provides ventilation into the tunnels as well as emergency access.

This site will also be used to launch our tunnel boring machines that will head west.

Victoria Road Tunnel Drive (Flat Iron) site

The flat iron site (so called as its shape from above looks like an iron flattened out) will be a site used as the HS2 vehicle holding site. It will allow vehicles to enter and be checked and held in situ before continuing to specific sites.

Old Oak Common Station site

This is the site for one of the country's most largest and newest super hubs. It will provide high speed trains to the midlands and access into central London via Crossrail. You can read more about the station here .

Wormwood Scrubs

To help build the station, a number of utilities have to be moved. These utilities currently run under the station site south, under the existing railway tracks and under Wormwood Scrubs. HS2 will have to lay new utilities and reconnect to the existing systems around the scrubs. You can read more detailed information at our dedicated page about the works here .

Conveyor system

The planned conveyor system will run from the station west over Old Oak Common Lane towards our flat iron site heading north towards our WET site. The system will be used to remove million tonnes of material and spoil from the tunnels being created by the tunnel boring machines and the construction of the station. The conveyors are being used rather then using lorries which will help the local road system. For further information please read our dedicated page here .
